Anyone working in construction will tell you there are industry-specific nuances you just won’t get until you’ve been working on jobsites for awhile. Problem is, almost every new manager comes onsite thinking they should know all there is to know about running a project, and that it’ll be tough to earn the project team’s respect without a comprehensive knowledge of all the trades. It’s understandable – no one wants to look like an idiot when dealing with an experienced crew. But it’s the wrong approach, and one that won’t get you very far.
