Today marks a big day for FieldLens, and I am beyond excited to finally share the news. This morning during the keynote address at the Bluebeam eXtreme Conference in Los Angeles, I announced that FieldLens is launching a new drawings feature that will be interoperable with Bluebeam, the best-in-class drawings solution for the construction industry. This is going to be a game-changer for construction project teams, bringing a superior level of communication to the jobsite.
What does this mean for our users? FieldLens Drawings will work with any industry-standard PDF file, tagging conversations right to your drawings so that you can zoom in to a location and see exactly what’s happening there at any given moment. When FieldLens Drawings becomes available in September, we’ll be introducing a feature called LiveLayer™ – the ability to view drawings overlaid with the realtime conversations happening on the jobsite. Need to see the status of 2nd floor rebar? Zoom into that spot on your drawing, follow the link, and you’ll see all communication about that exact location without ever having to leave the drawing.
If you use Bluebeam, you’ll easily be able to upload your drawings into FieldLens – FieldLens preserves all links, mark-up, and call-outs from Bluebeam. Through the use of Bluebeam’s new Studio API, FieldLens seamlessly syncs projects, drawing versions, and links added from Bluebeam Revu. We’ve been working closely with their team on this process to ensure our partnership brings the absolute best experience possible to our users.
At FieldLens we are laser focused on solving the construction industry’s communication problem. I spent 10+ years in the field before founding FieldLens, and it still makes my blood boil just thinking about the frustration and mistakes caused by the constant communication breakdowns that were happening on every job. We built FieldLens to solve this problem because we believe everyone in the industry deserves better tools. To do that effectively, we knew we had to deliver field communication in the context of drawings. FieldLens Drawings is yet another piece of the puzzle, and we’re going to keep working as hard as we can to deliver features that will make project team communication as effortless as possible.
And now for why this really matters. In a word – interoperability. Nothing in construction was ever built by one company alone, and it’s time the industry’s software providers recognize that and make interoperability a priority. Bluebeam is the best software for construction drawings, and FieldLens is the best software for construction communication. We both want to deliver solutions that help construction project teams work as efficiently as possible, and we collectively achieve that by making our solutions work together. Quite frankly, there needs to be more of this happening among construction software companies and it’s an increasingly important focus for FieldLens.
We are so excited to partner with Bluebeam and look forward to seeing how this partnership will help our users communicate even more easily on the jobsite now that they’ll have all the information they need in one place. This is just the beginning of what Bluebeam and FieldLens have in store for the construction industry.
